A new report confirmed that total PS5 sales amount to 13.4 million units, while PS Plus subscribers are close to 50 million subscribers
Yesterday, Sony announced that its games and networks division has generated gods revenues of $ 5.86 billion, with profits that register a gain of 0.75 billion, all in the period between July and September 2021. As shown by the table you find in the news, provided by Resetera, this is the best second quarter for PlayStation, relative to sales and revenues, and the second best result ever if we consider the periods outside the winter holiday window. All this, however, recorded a decline of 21% on an annual basis, even if the final result related to overall PS5 sales it’s definitely positive.
PS5 has excellent total sales
During the three months under review, Sony confirmed that he has sold 3.3 million units of its new console, registering an increase of 1 million compared to the first quarter of 2021. Which brings the total of pieces sold at 13.4 million. For a little comparison, PS4 recorded 200,000 consoles sold in the same period, up from one and a half million last year.
With regard to games, the overall totals of PS4 and PS5 amounted to 76.4 million, again in the quarter in question, recording a decrease compared to the 81.8 million of the previous year. Of these, 7.6 million were first party securities (down again in this case, if we consider the 12.8 million in the same period of 2020).
To date, the title to have recorded the best sales, as far as first parties are concerned, is Spider-Man: Miles Morales (6.5 million), followed by Demon’s Souls (1.4 million) and Ratch & Clank: Rift Apart (1.1 million). As for the subscribed to PlayStation Plus, the number of subscribers has increased by approximately 1 million units since the first quarter of 2021, leading the total of users to 47.2 million, with an increase of 2.2 million compared to the usual period of the previous year. Consequently, the active PlayStation Network users have dropped for the third quarter in a row: let’s talk 104 million players, compared to 105, 109 and 114 of the previous time frames.
We are, however, talking about the second most profitable quarter ever, mainly driven by PlayStation, music and electronic products, although all has been affected by the shortage of components due to the pandemic.
In spite of this, during the last meeting of the shareholders, the CFO of the company Hiroki Totoki confirmed that Sony has secured enough semiconductors to meet fiscal year sales targets set at 14.8 million Ps5 placed.
