L’Italia confirms itself as the European country most affected by ransomware attacksan unwelcome record confirmed by the new report on Trend Micro first half 2022 Research. We are also on the podium globally, and in general for malware attacks we are in sixth place.
Italy hit by ransomware, we are the first country in Europe
According to reports “Defending the Expanding Attack Surface”, The report on the first half of the year on cyber threats prepared by Trend Micro Research, malware and ransomware attacks are more than the order of the day in our country.
If in fact all over the world they have been intercepted 8.032.336, Italy is the first country in Europe to have suffered more attacks and the seventh in the world. This is the top ten of intercepted attacks:

However, Italy is the third country in the world among those most affected by ransomware in generation, the first in our continent. The ranking sees Japan first (134,703), followed by the United States (16,460), Italia (8.475), India (8,394), Germany (6,856).
The most popular ransomware are LockBit e Contiwhich registered a 500% magnificationu annual basis, doubling in just six months. The ransomware-as-a-service model yields significant profits.
The total number of malware attacks (of which ransomware is a part) are 82.714.876. A big increase compared to the first half of 2021, when they had been 28.208.577. LItaly is the sixth most attacked country in the world and the second in Europe, preceded by the United Kingdom.
Of the attacks, 130,879,798 arrive via email, first vector ever. Malicious sites follow at 7,925,836, then apps at 34,628. Among the most affected sectors PA, manufacturing e health carebut there are as many as 3,324 unique malware’s online banking they hit Italy.
Finally, it should be noted that the incidence of ransomware exploiting software vulnerabilities is increasing: the Zero Day Initiative di Trend Micro ha discovered 944 vulnerabilities, for an increase of 23% on an annual basis.
