Between the glimpses of Rift Apart and the size of Sony, the new RYNO 8 by Ratchet and Clank allows interesting internal crossovers
Sony may have thrown in the towel with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, but the look crossover of the weapon RYNO 8 in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart seems to wink at Super Smash Bros .. Insomniac Games has just revealed on its Twitter profile that the new incarnation of the gadget, translated into Italian as MIPS (“die in seconds”) in the first chapter of the saga, will have a different functioning this time. The demonstration included in the video featured in the tweet shows the new RYNO in action and, indeed, the old acronym seems to take on another meaning.
Ratchet & Clank’s RYNO: Rift Apart “makes you a crossover like this”
The original acronym of RYNO stood for “rip you a new one”, or the vulgar threat “I’ll open another one”, but now the holes opened by Ratchet and Clank’s weapon are, referring to the plot of Rift Apart, those between one dimension and another. Not surprisingly, therefore, in the video below we see the two successfully summon a Thunder Devourer, directly from Horizon: Zero Dawn. Ironically, this isn’t even the first time that inter-dimensional gates have involved Sony properties, given what happened recently in another cross-platform title.
Ratchet: We made it outta the rift with a new super weapon: the RYNO 8!
Clank: It seems this device can drop objects from other dimensions into ours. Fascinating.#RatchetPS5Takeover #SunsetOverdrive @Guerrilla @SuckerPunchProd @Naughty_Dog @PlayStation pic.twitter.com/TavBdHw3oL

We allude, unsurprisingly, to Fortnite, which just today welcomed Rick Sanchez and Superman into its ranks. Previously other Sony properties have joined the fray, thus also accessing the hardware of rival consoles: we talk about Kratos from God of War and, to close the circle, Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn. We’ll find out more about the weapon’s functions when the game releases, perhaps to comply with Sony’s absence at E3 this Friday, June 11.
