Realme GT2: review of a high-performance mid-range

Over the past few weeks we have had the opportunity to try it first hand Realme GT2a smartphone that is placed in the medium range, despite having different characteristics with its big brother Pro. Let’s find out what are its strengths and weaknesses in our review by Realme GT2.

Realme GT2: our review

Let’s start with the design of this device, an element that it practically shares in its entirety with the Pro version. The coating of this device is in fact made almost entirely of recyclable materials, and has obtained various certifications as regards eco-sustainability.

Overall we are faced with a truly elegant device, also thanks to the two colors in which it is available, that is paper white e paper green. Traditional instead the equipment inside the box, in which we find a 65W SuperDart chargera USB-C cable and a black silicone cover.

As for the unlocking options, we have a fingerprint sensor and the ability to set facial recognition, an element that we are always pleased to find in a new generation smartphone.

The first sore point of this review must necessarily go to the battery of the device, first of all because the autonomy of the device drops in case of intensive use, and then because during the charge the device reaches really high temperatures, to the point of making us worry, in a couple of cases. Fortunately, however, recharging is very fast thanks to the supplied charger.

Display, audio and connectivity

Moving on to the display in this case we are dealing with a 6.62 inch Super AMOLED display, which comes with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. As regards the brightness we have a maximum of 1300nits and there is not even the HDR10 + certification.

Obviously in this case the quality peaks that can easily be found in the Pro are not reached, but it is still an excellent display, much better than several of its competitors in the same price range, also thanks to the adaptive refresh rate at 4 levels.

We were also particularly surprised by the audio sector, which supports the technology Dolby Atmos and there is a Hi-Res Audio certification, which we can confirm after using it as a portable small speaker.

Connectivity is also not bad, with the support of practically all mobile networks used in our country from 5G up to WiFi 6, passing through bluetooth 5.2.

Camera and performance

But we come to the camera, which shares the main sensor with the pro model, namely a Sony IMX766 from 50MP with autofocus Omni-pixel omni-directional PDAF. To complete the camera department we have an 8MP ultra wide angle lens and an ultra wide angle lens, which create a respectable photographic offer.

Also excellent videos, which are recorded in 4K e 60 FPSwhich of course is an extremely positive thing and which further enhances this device.

Finally, as regards the GT2 performance, the device under the body mounts a chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, which manages to guarantee excellent performance, even if the battery is at the expense, as we have already explained to you before. Also notable are RAM and Storage which respectively amount to 12 and 256 GBin the version that we have had the opportunity to try, and which have always given us a fluid user experience without slowdowns.

PRO

  • Excellent performance
  • Photo / Video department above average
  • Eco-sustainable design

AGAINST

  • Short-lived battery
  • Overheating during charging
