Renfield, the film about Dracula’s aide starring Nicholas Hoult, Nicolas Cage and Awkwafina, could see the arrival of a sequel
Despite the rather poor box office result, Renfield with Nicolas Cage could have a sequel. This is what the director of the first film suggests Chris McKay, despite the film’s ending leaving little room for doubt. Speaking to Empire she indeed claimed the body of Count Dracula (Nicholas Cage) was indeed torn apart by Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), but his body could still be reassembled. He also adds that there may even be room for the presence of Van Helsing!
Renfield is cementing those fragments with holy water and presumably scattering them around the world. But in each of those cells, Dracula is still alive, and he might just pull himself together. There are choices we’ve made to suggest that there’s a world of vampire hunters out there… It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to suggest that Van Helsing might be out there.
Renfield: a sequel coming?
However, we still don’t know if the Universal Pictures will decide to proceed with the creation of a sequel. Obviously it seems we are far from a real announcement. Universal may not want to risk it financially again with Renfield, given the huge losses they incurred in producing this film. In fact, despite the good reception of the (little) public who saw it in theaters and the curiosity that cloaked the film until its release, the film grossed just over $26 million globally against production costs estimated at $65 million. In any case, we will keep you updated on our page dedicated to films and TV series about the developments of this production. What do you think of Renfield? Did you go to see it?
