Review Only Murders in the Building 3: episodio 3

Only Murders in the Building 3 continues with the screening of episode 3, available on Disney+, of which we offer you the review

ORIGINAL TITLE: Only Murders in the Building. TYPE: comedy, yellow. NATION: United States. REGIA: Eva Longoria. CAST: Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep. DURATION: 40 minutes per episode. DISTRIBUTOR: Disney+. EXIT: from 8 August 2023.

After last week’s double episode that opened the new season, Only Murders in the Building 3 slows down the tumultuous pace of the first two episodes a bit and start digging calmly into the new mystery to be solved. In fact, if the foundations for this new chapter were laid with the first two episodes, with Ben’s death, which took place once again at the Arconia, the third episode fulfills the task of pulling the strings of the story for a moment, of making order and to direct the evolution of the plot, which promises, as in the past, to unravel through different paths. At the end of the episode we can put a face to the first one (but of course not the last) suspect.

Trama e trailer | Review Only Murders in the Building 3: episodio 3

The first two installments immediately led to arrests, but Mable (Selena Gomez) e Charles (Steve Martin) are well aware, also from personal experience, that the prime suspect is never the murderer. As usual, the investigations begin to focus on a series of suspects, who will gradually be denied and re-evaluated over the course of the season. Actually in this phase does not participate Oliver (Martin Short), busily trying to save his show by making it a musical. The production of his work is in fact at risk and he needs a sensational song to break into the producers’ pockets. To help him, even if after some reluctance, there is Loretta (Meryl Streep), who packs a thrilling song with a chilling performance.

But back to the investigation into who killed Ben (Paul Rudd) delves into the last moments of the actor’s life, recorded comfortably by a documentary maker. The first suspicions fall on a member of the cast and a sentimental motive is identified in the first instance. At this time, we reiterate, he is not participating in the investigation and the game of suspects Oliver, still reeling from everything that happened in the first two installments. The poisoning first and then the actual death of Ben have clearly affected his show in a clear way and the director is trying to reinvent himself, in order not to miss this last opportunity to revive his career, with time pressing also due to of his health conditions. Far from Charles, if not for work reasons, and above all from Mable, even banned from his show, the character played by Martin Short at this moment remains on the sidelines of the investigation.

Intrigues and Relationships | Only Murders in the Building 3: Episode 3 review

While the investigation into Ben’s death takes shape, Only Murders in the Building also stages various intrigues and above all places the emphasis on some nascent relationships. Already last week the existence of a special report was feared tra Oliver e Loretta, which explodes in this episode, sublimated by the splendid singing performance of the actress and by a triumphant kiss. The director, evidently under stress, is perhaps not showing the best sides of himself, but he always remains extremely genuine and, deep down, he really deserves a special person, who in any case is not at all free from suspicions, as basically no one is. at this point in the story. In any case, the relationship between Oliver and Loretta is certainly intense and interesting, also important for subsequent developments.

Another relationship that seems to be taking shape, in a much less decisive way but with great potential, is that tra Mable e Tobert (Jesse Williams), Ben’s documentary maker. The two find themselves investigating the victim and join forces, after a game of deception that has taken on the traits of a lot of flirting. However, like Loretta, Tobert is not free from suspicion either. Instead the role of Steve Martin appears on the sly, rather a bit speck and perhaps undertone. However, let’s wait to give a definitive judgment, because the swirl of suspects can still bring many surprises.

Conclusions

Ultimately, after a double debut episode with an important impact, episode 3 of Only Murders in the Building takes its timewhich is a positive for the review. Less positive, however, is the continuation of the plot towards an unclear directive, as well as the unfortunately secondary role of Steve Martin, one of the stars who contributed in the first place to the success of the series. This episode, however, confirms the excellent impressions of a week ago and accentuates the traits introduced in the first two episodes, above all the skill of Meryl Streep who undoubtedly added something positive to the show. Although we have yet to get to the heart of the story, the series on Disney + continues to convince more and more and we look forward to discovering the new suspects as we go.

Plus points

  • The return to a quieter mystery
  • The rediscovery of the investigations and the first suspects

Points against

  • The role on the sidelines of Steve Martin
