In fact, according to what reported by World of Reel and The Movie DB, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Nightingale and the Serpent should last about 2h and 45 minutes, therefore definitely more than the other chapters of the franchise, which were around two hours. At the moment, however, Lionsgate, the project’s distribution house, has not yet officially confirmed the news.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Nightingale and the Serpent – the duration and the trailer

The longer duration of the film could be attributed to the complexity of the plot, which will tell of the rise to power of Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland in the original saga), as can also be understood from the official synopsis:

Years before becoming the tyrannical president of Panem, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope for the good name of his fading house: a proud family fallen on hard times in the postwar Capitol. As the tenth annual Hunger Games approaches, young Snow fears for his reputation as he is appointed mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the tribute girl from miserable District 12. But when Lucy Gray magnetizes the entire nation of Panem by singing challenge at the harvest ceremony, Snow realizes it could turn the tide in his favor. Combining their instincts for entertainment and political cunning, Snow and Lucy will aim for survival in a race against time to decide who is the nightingale and who is the snake.

To take on the role of young Snow is Tom Blyth (in her first leading role) while lending body and voice to Lucy Gray we find Rachel Zegler, a young star launched by Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and recently appeared in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Then complete the cast Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman and Hunter Schafer. Directed instead we find Francis Lawrence, already behind the camera of the last three chapters of the original saga.
