Recently, The Verge would have made very interesting statements on the specifications of the PS5 Pro: are they reality this time and not just rumors? Let's see the details together in this dedicated article
We've been talking about rumor after rumor about the potential specifications of the PS5 Pro for months, so much so that it now seems clear that Sony wants to follow the same strategy used for the PS4: a mid-generation console, which increases the ability of developers to focus on the hardware and create technically more complex games. According to the most recent rumors put online by none other than The Verge, PS5 Pro should feature a more powerful GPU and a slightly faster CPU, but only in a specific mode. Additionally, Sony is reportedly encouraging developers to implement ray tracing in their games, to earn the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label.
PS5 Pro: so let's see them together, these technical specifications leaked by The Verge
According to the full specs list seen by The Verge, the PS5 Pro system will feature faster memory and improved GPU rendering, which is said to be “about 45% faster” than a Standard PS5. In general, the PS5 Pro will have a significantly more powerful GPU, while the CPU will be the same as the PS5 Standard, but will benefit from a new mode that aims for a clock frequency of 3.85 GHz, with an improvement of around 10%. The documents also mention a “standard mode” at 3.5GHz and a “high CPU frequency mode” at 3.85Ghz, which developers will obviously be able to use to their advantage.
Memory changes should bring a 25% increase on the PS5 Pro, with 576 GB/s compared to 448 GB/s on the standard PS5. Additionally, Sony's new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology will act as an upscaling solution for more demanding games, similar to Nvidia's DLSS and AMD's FSR, improving frame rates without excessively sacrificing image quality. Sony is said to have integrated a “custom machine learning architecture” on the PS5 Pro, which supports 300 TOPS of 8-bit processing.
The news of the leaked PS5 Pro specs comes shortly after Sony revised its sales forecast for the fiscal year ending in March, which expected 21 million PS5 consoles to be sold by the end of this period. The announcement knocked $10 billion off the company's stock value, and Sony revealed that there will be no major new projects coming out until April 2025.
