While the invasion of Ukraine appears to have stalled, the electronic warfare of Russia begins to give its first results – or so some intelligence analysts have noted -. Indeed, Russian electronic warfare systems – EW – are apparently playing an important role in the matter. In particular, we are talking about hardware and software systems capable of to block, intercept or locate communications enemies, which seem to give important results in favor of the Russian army.
Russia: Electronic warfare in Ukraine begins to work
A new analysis published in Spectrum, a news publication produced by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), argues that although Russia’s electronic warfare did not play a decisive role in the invasion, it is now contributing to the successes of the government of Putin. “Experts have long touted Russia as having some of the most experienced and best equipped EW units in the world – said the expert. Bryan Clark -. So, in the early days of the February 24 invasion, analysts expected Russian forces to quickly take over and thus dominate the electromagnetic spectrum. “
According to Clark, Russia’s EW systems at first failed to deliver the desired results. Yet, now that Russian troops control more territory in Ukraine and resort to more and more “siege tactics” around cities, electronic warfare is beginning to bear fruit. Recently, for example, Russian troops would have been able to blocking radar communications Ukrainian drones, preventing them from effectively identifying Russian artillery batteries. Or, to cite another case, interception techniques allow Russian forces to locate and target Ukrainian artillery. In short, the first successes are beginning to show. And this is only the beginning.
