Half of Samsung’s premium smartphones will be foldable in 2025
The executive in charge of Samsung Electronics’ mobile unit, Roh Tae-moon, think Samsung’s future is foldable. After announcing the new iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 clamshell smartphone and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 ‘book’ model, he thinks the segment’s growth will continue. Within three years they will sell more than the flagships of the Galaxy S22 line (con S22 Plus e S22 Ultra).
“By 2025, foldable devices will be worth more than 50% of total shipments of premium smartphones. Foldables will become the new standard for smartphones ”.
In the leaflet market, Samsung has a truly dominant position. Also because the main rivals (Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi and vivo) are mainly targeting the Chinese domestic market. Instead Samsung is continuing to grow. In August 2021 i Flip 3 and Fold 3 sold 7.1 million unitswith the little Galaxy Z Flip 3 winning audiences with 4.6 million units.
These numbers have driven a foldable market that holds true in 2021 9 million units. Relatively low numbers, but that grow by 309% compared to the previous yearetooth. For Samsung, they currently account for only 2.6 percent of total smartphone sales. But the percentage is expected to grow.
The premium smartphone market is currently dominated by Apple, with 60% (although Samsung surpasses it for the smartphone sector in general). But with the leaflets in the near future the situation could perhaps change, or at least that’s what they hope in Korea. With Apple who will have to decide whether to respond with a foldable iPhoneif he wants to keep up.
