Il 74th festival of Italian music did not disappoint expectations and has, indeed, obtained even more acclaim. Many young artists who mixed with singers who had already been known for years. Another festival, another record: the 67.8% share, a statistic that has not been equaled since 1987. It may be due to the “fight” between the new generation and the old, or it may be due to the numerous innovations that increasingly attract guests and the public. The 74th edition proved to be surprising and, once the fourth evening was over, let’s discover the Sanremo 2024 song report cards.
The analysis will not show a clear ranking, but it will be divided between positive and negative notes. For the first category, there will be a distinction between the so-called “big” and younger artists.
Below, here are the first opinions:
Mariposa (Fiorella Mannoia) 6 – Fiorella Mannoia’s voice is the emblem of beauty and elegance. The text is, as always, delicate and strong at the same time, it is always pleasant to listen to her strings.
Freediving (Emma) 6 – Grit, desire to get involved and a very recognizable tone: Emma Marrone lights up the stage, showing her passion for music.
That’s all (Gazelles) 6.5 – Particular artist, enough to draw attention to him. Maybe it’s because of his non-conformist clothing, or because of his very “hermetic” lyrics. His style is now well known by his fans, very interesting text.
Let’s start everything again (Negramaro) 7 – Those who love music will always appreciate Giuliano Sangiorgi’s voice and his authentic poems. A hymn to love, life, relationships, music.
Up to here (Alessandra Amoroso) 6.5 – The tone of his voice always enchants, melancholic lyrics and a song that receives his appreciation. “Slow” pace, but which allows you to better understand the content.
Not you (Irama) 7 – Low rhythms and intense lyrics, Irama continues to grow and confirm himself as a constantly evolving artist, ready to take a place in the future of Italian music.
Masterpiece (Il Volo) 7 – They have to like it, it’s true. But the text is not discussed. What a beautiful message of love.
You move (Diodato) 7 – Singer, author, complete artist. Introspective and visceral text, one of the most “delicate” of this edition.
Crazy about you (Renga and Nek) 6.5 – A now well-known couple, composed of two singers who have left their mark on the Italian musical panorama. Two incredible voices, with delicate and poignant lyrics.
Crazy (Loredana Berté) 6.5 – 73 years old. But a lot of life, a beautiful example of how “dreams have no age” and how passions find no obstacles. Nothing else matters.
My house (Ghali) 6 – Fast pace, lively song. An artist much appreciated among young people, but a much less convincing text than others.
Sincerely (Annalisa) 6.5 – His vocal texture is always heartbreaking. Can a reflective text be considered a “hymn to life”?
But not all of life (Rich and Poor) 6 – Always an important stage, returning to be heard. Deserved sufficiency.
We move on to evaluations on “emerging”:
I p’me, tu p’te (Geolier) 6 – A type of music that you have to like. It takes technique and a lot of study to succeed, but perhaps Sanremo is not the right place.
Heaven doesn’t want us (Fred De Palma) 6 – Much appreciated by the kids, he presents himself at the festival with a piece that does not differ from his musical nature. Content of love, piece that deserves passing.
The Bride (Angelina Mango) 6.5 – The young artist wants to make herself more and more known. As a good “daughter of art”, she does not disappoint her expectations.
Self-destructive (La Sad) 6.5 – An angry piece, typical of “today’s teenagers”. A way to get closer to a segment that is often not understood. Convincing song.
Fragile (The Three) 6 – Many evocative images, mixed with a pleasant rhythm. A piece that can be appreciated.
Finish me (Sangiovanni) 6 – Another love text, although with always different nuances. A singer who is highlighting himself, guaranteeing himself a good launch thanks to the festival.
Go (Alpha) 6 – After the summer hit, there is a bit of disappointment. You earn a passing grade, also linked to your young age.
Click boom! (Rose Villain) 6,5 – This singer’s timbre is almost hypnotic. Her lyrics tell a large part of herself, opening up to the public and perhaps even to her most hidden soul.
A boy a girl (The Kolors) 6 – Now famous for having become popular with “ITALODISCO”, here is the explosive group again. Captivating song that leads the listener to keep in time, but the content is certainly not among the best of this edition.
Anger is not enough for you (BigMama) 6 – Listening to this piece without moving your legs to the rhythm is almost impossible. An interesting text, but not yet “mature” to take a prominent place in Sanremo.
Spectacular (Maninni) 6.5 – A very delicate voice, as well as its lyrics. It can be defined as the pleasant surprise of this edition.
Love in the mouth (French Saints) 6 – Young guys who met thanks to the X Factor found themselves raising the bar. Their skill in composing lyrics is not for everyone, but for them too it is a way to make themselves known and mature further.
Rough diamonds (Clara) 6 – An adolescent text, for a singer who wants – in small steps – to make herself known.
The “failures”
We move on to the “discordant notes”, which see two more well-known artists, followed by a young group, who tried to show off. Mahmood was also a “surprise”.
Here they are evaluations:
Onda Alta (Dargen D’Amico) 5 – It will undoubtedly be a piece to understand and analyze, but perhaps the Ariston stage is not the right place.
Two Swings (Mr. Rain) 5.5 – After the last appearance, perhaps he had too much weight on his shoulders and he fell short of expectations. Her talent is undoubted, but the song isn’t as impressive as her latest inventions.
Governo punk (BNKR44) 5 – They tried to show off, probably a good springboard for them. There is still work to be done, but the attitude is the right one. The text is not so strong that it can reach the “heart” of even the greatest.
Tuta gold (Mahmood) 5,5 – Lively rhythm, but not very explosive lyrics, especially considering his latest releases.
