After waiting for quite some time since its announcement, preparing to see it with this guide on how and where to watch the series, finally that fateful day has arrived. Today, February 27, the highly anticipated film is available on Disney+ Shogun, a series set in ancient Feudal Japan and based on the book written by James Clavell, writer, screenwriter and director who passed away in ’94. The novel on which the series is based was the one that opened the eyes of the Anglo-Saxon population to the oriental world, illustrating the fascinating aspects of that era and also of Japanese customs. In particular we talk about theera Sengoku and the legend of the samurai.
The plot of Shogun on Disney+
The story of this series features an English sailor named John Blackthorne and is set in 17th century. Author James Clavell wanted to tell the story of when he was captured and imprisoned in Singapore, telling it through the eyes of the protagonist of his work. In fact, Blackthorne will be forced to learn to survive one civil war in a land very far from his and with completely different customs. The protagonist will then end up becoming the advisor of an important feudal lord, Lord Yoshii Toranaga.
The English sailor, however, will not be alone, in fact he will be there Lady Toda Mariko, a woman with many secrets and extraordinary abilities who will act as an intermediary between John Black Thorne and Lord Yoshii Toranaga. In the cast we find Cosmo Jarvis in the role of the protagonist e Hiroyuki Sanada as the feudal lord. Shogun had already been transported into live action in a 1980 television mini series, but now James Clavell’s book returns in a modernized version.
