Sony PlayStation has confirmed that it has suspended all its commercial relations with Russia, disrupting video game sales in the country. The decision had already been in the air for a few weeks, given that the Japanese giant had removed Grand Touring 7 from Russian stores for unidentified and now clearer reasons. Meanwhile, the front of companies boycotting the Kremlin is increasing in number.
Sony PlayStation stops sales in Russia
Here is what the company’s official communication reads: “Sony Interactive Entertainment joins the global community in asking for peace in Ukraine. We have suspended all software and hardware shipments, the launch of Gran Turismo 7 and PlayStation Store operations in Russia ”. In short, in practice it is a total blockade of the company’s activities in the country, which aligns Sony with the companies that are protesting against the invasion.
To make matters worse, Sony has also taken action in the humanitarian field, to try to cope with the ongoing crisis, which continues to worsen in spite of everything: “To support humanitarian aid, Sony Group Corporation has announced a donation of 2 million dollars to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and to the international NGO, Save the Children, in order to support the victims of this tragedy ”.
Last week the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister asked Xbox e PlayStation to temporarily stop product support in the Russian and Belarusian markets in the face of the invasion, in order to create as much inconvenience to the states as possible, and both companies responded promptly to the appeal. Other video game companies that have suspended all activities in Russia are Nintendo, Electronic Arts, CD Projekt, Take-Two, Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard and Epic Games.
