Spotify’s Podcast Alerts Regarding COVID-19
In the next few days, Spotify has unveiled that it will add a content notice to any podcast episode which includes a discussion of COVID-19. This notice will direct listeners to the COVID-19 Company hub. In its current iteration, the page includes links to podcasts from the BBC, ABC News e Foreign Policy.
“As far as we know, this content notice is the first of its kind from a large podcast platform,” according to Ek. However, platforms like Facebook and Twitter have also used similar measures.
Spotify has also pledged to publicly share hers content guidelines. Starting today, you can read them through the company’s Newsroom website. In the future, they will also be accessible through the Spotify main site, and the company promised to translate them into other languages.
“We know we play a critical role in supporting creator expression, balancing it with the security of our users,” Ek said. “In this role, it’s important to me that we don’t take the position of content censor. We have to make sure that there are rules in place and consequences for those who violate them ”.
The action comes after the musicians Neil Young e Joni Mitchell have decided to abandon the music streaming platform to protest his Rogan podcast management and the disinformation on COVID-19.
