Stellar presented the STLA Large platforma flexible solution for electric vehicles (BEV) which will form the basis of a wide range of new models in the segments D and E. This platform, expected to launch between 2024 and 2026, will arrive first in brands Dodge e Jeepand then extended to other brands such as Alfa Romeo, Chrysler e Maserati.
Stellantis announces the STLA Large platform for electric cars
STLA Large is expected to provide unprecedented flexibility in design and manufacturing. Designed to cover a wide range of vehicles, from sedan models to SUVs, the platform leverages a series of basic components and efficient manufacturing processes. The announcement follows the presentation of STLA Medium in July 2023confirming that Stellantis believes in an electric future.
Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellanti explains: “The flexibility and agility of this platform are its distinctive feature and will be the driving force of our success in the transition to electrification in North America”. The platform provides several multi-energy options, including hybrid and internal combustion. Produced in European and American factories, it will be used for 4×4 off-road vehicles as well as luxury cars.
Thanks to the use of innovative high-strength materials, the platform will be able to offer extreme performance and maximize battery life, according to Stellantis. Additionally, engineers have the freedom to define key dimensions such as wheelbase, length, width and overall height and from the ground. But also to choose 400 and 800 volt electrical architectures.
With this platform, Stellantis vehicles will be able to use batteries from 85 to 118 kWh. The sedans will be able to have up to 800 kilometers of autonomy, depending on the specifications. Charging could be up to 4.5 kWh per minute in 800-volt models. But the performance should also impress: from 0 to 100 in less than two seconds.
Stellantis’ electric commitment
Stellantis has confirmed an investment of more than that 50 billion euros in electrification within the next decade. It aims for 100% battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in Europe and 50% in the United States by 2030. For this, it is developing four platforms: Small, Medium, Large e Frame. Furthermore, it will have several software technologies such as STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit and STLA AutoDrive.
STLA Large represents an important step in this direction. Below is a video, created by Stellantis, on the new platform.
