With the launch of the iPhone 14 approaching, it would appear that Apple is concentrating orders for 7P wide angle lenses on a single supplier. This is the indiscretion leaked on the Net by the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who reports that Sunny Optical is now becoming the main supplier of the Cupertino company for the production of the new iPhone series.
Sunny Optical will provide Apple with the lenses of the new iPhone series
“Sunny Optical is the largest supplier of 7P wide angle lenses for the iPhone 14 and its supply relationship clearly exceeds Largan, Genius and the market consensus.” So Ming-Chi Kuo announced that Apple has a new supplier for the new iPhone series. In reality, it is not clear what he means by “market consensus”, although the analyst then provides specific details on the orders. “The shipping allocation of Sunny Optical’s high-end 7P wide-angle lens (used in two high-end iPhone 14 Pro) and low-end 7P wide-angle lens (used in two low-end iPhone 14s) was 50 -60% and 55-65%, respectively. The proportion of the supply of Largan and Genius is more or less the same “.

Kuo says Sunny Optical’s increased ability to produce the lenses means “the company will continue the price war to get more Apple orders.” On the other hand, the analyst predicts that the company “could become the main supplier of the ToF lens for the iPhone 15 in 2023”. Currently the iPhone’s Time of Flight system, used in its LiDAR function, is mainly provided by Genius. But that could change in the years to come. Or at least that’s what Ming-Chi Kuo has allowed us to understand.
