Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto just posted a short tweet confirming that the animated Super Mario Bros film will no longer be released this year, but has been postponed until 2023. The film, which has no official title yet, was supposed to arrive in theaters this December, but it seems that the production is still behind with the works.
The Super Mario Bros movie has been postponed
Here is what we read in the tweet:
“Hi, this is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my Illumination partner for the Super Mario Bros movie, we have decided to move the world release to Spring 2023 – April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies, but I promise it will be worth the wait ”.

In short, it will be necessary to wait another year before seeing the new Super Mario film in the hall and, although this novelty may somehow disappoint some fans, it must be said that it is a courageous choice by the production, which is working closely with Nintendo to create a film that can do justice to the reference material.
As you may have noticed, however, a release date is completely missing in European and Italian theaters, but fortunately Nintendo of America has already clarified the subject, confirming that the film will arrive in the old continent on April 23. An intermediate date between the American and Japanese ones, therefore, which will allow us to get an idea of the film in advance thanks to reviews from overseas.
