James Cameron is preparing to bring his underwater masterpiece The Abyss back to US cinemas for one day only in a new version restored in 4K of which the trailer has been released
As had already been anticipated a few months ago, the director James Cameron is ready to bring back to American theaters, for now, and for one day only the restored 4K version of his underwater masterpiece The Abyss.
Released in 1989and directed by Cameron between Aliens – Final Clash and Terminator 2, The Abyss starred Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Michael Biehnand told the story of a team of underwater oil drillers tasked with finding an American submarine that had mysteriously disappeared, and who once identified the vessel found themselves faced with an enigmatic shape-shifting alien life form, which had been the cause of the disappearance of the submarine and its crew.

The Abyss was a moderate success with the public at the time, but notable among critics he worked in a pioneering way on visual effects: the alien composed of water created with morphing in a completely experimental way by Industrial Light & Magic became famous, with a team led by effects expert Joe Letteri, now a five-time Oscar winner and known for his contribution to the saga of the Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson, to the new Planet of the Apes series, and to films like Alita, I, Robot and of course Avatar 1 and 2.
