The best superhero video games

Superhero video games have become much more frequent lately and (fortunately) the latest ones published are of excellent quality, but there are also older ones that have still made a good impression: here are the best superhero video games

There are many superhero video games, whether they have already been published for some time, new or have yet to be released. The fact is that we like superheroes, which is why we particularly care about video games with them as protagonists. We anticipate that in this list you will ONLY find Marvel and DC characters, so don’t count titles like Prototype or Infamous. Here they are exclusively superheroes from Marvel and DC comics. Having made the necessary assumptions, let’s start with the list straight away!

5. Marvel’s Avengers | The best superhero video games

This represents a very sore point in the video game industry dedicated to superheroes, not because it is bad, on the contrary, it is a valid titlethe only problem is that they could have done much more. The strong point of Marvel’s Avengers it is the plot, a new, unpublished story that we have never seen either in comics or in films. Captain America is dead after the events ofA-Dayan event in honor of Avengers. After failing to prevent the bridge from San Francisco exploded and a substance was released that turns people into metahumans, the world began to see the Avengers as a danger to society and the team then split. The heroes will have to reunite when a new threat, M.O.D.O.Ktries to take over the world with an army of anti-metahuman androids.

The plot is engaging and the characters create some nice bonds with each other, even if some are overlooked (like Thor and Cap himself). Gameplay-wise, it is funbut too much repetitive. Although it must be taken into account that each hero has his own combat systemin this the Square Enix she made a commitment. Playing in the company of friends is even more fun and you can choose your favorite character to send straight to the battlefield. You can choose between Iron Man, Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Black Widow, Thor e Captain Americabut there are others Free DLC which unlocked new characters like Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Jane Foster e Bucky Barnes.

4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine | The best superhero video games

This is the exception to the rule tie-in video games based on the films. Unfortunately the title was very unfortunate because it was released in a period in which the trend of developing video games based on films had started. Just that X-Men Origins: Wolverine it’s a little light in the total darkness, one of the few tie-in video games that are really well made and very fun. Imagine playing the first few chapters of God Of Warbut instead of Kratos you put us Wolverine: You got this super fun game. Based on the film of the same name in which Wolverine’s story begins (we analyzed the character in this article), where Logan creates a new life for himself after working as a mercenary for General Stryker. His brother Victor comes back into his life and starts ruining it by killing his partner. Thus begins Wolverine’s journey in which he searches vendetta.

This is probably one of the titles more violent in the world of video games. The game is a hack and slash which allows you to mangle, disembowel and cut off the limbs of all the enemies you come across. All mixed with spectacular action scenes full of quick time event which make the scene even more fun to see, it is a real feast for the eyes. Unfortunately though, as we’ve already said, she didn’t get the attention she deserved, considering all the bad tie-in titles that came out around that time. If you haven’t played this title yet and still have a PS3 or one Xbox 360we absolutely recommend that you recover it.

3. Marvel’s Guardians Of The Glaxy | The best superhero video games

Obviously, one of the teams that has been very popular at the cinema in recent years and has made many Marvel fans fall in love with it obviously couldn’t be missing. Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy It has everything it was missing Marvel’s Avengers. Here too we find one original story which we have never seen in the film trilogy of James Gunnbut the protagonist characters are the same, just as the event remains 80’s music of which our beloved Star-Lord he is passionate. Here the story is more personal, we discover more about the past of Peter Quill, what it was like to live with his mother, the teachings she gave him, and what led him to become Star-Lord. Things get complicated when, during one of their searches for fortune and money, they come across a strange substance capable of destroying the universe, but this creature is controlled by a Church galactic who intends to purify the galaxy. The Guardians thus find themselves facing this new threat, while Quill tries to solve personal problems.

Unlike Marvel’s Avengers here you can only control Star-Lord, but you can give orders to other Guardians which attacks to make in battle. The video game is one third person shooter, with some platforming and investigation sequences. The fights are fast-paced and fun, as you unlock the Guardians’ abilities it becomes even more frenetic and fast-paced. Once loaded the special move, you can motivate your companions during battle, and the jokes change depending on the difficulty you are facing. At this point, in addition to strengthening yourself, you will fight with 80s songs in the background like Never Gonna Give You Up Of Rick Astley. The only flaw is in the consequences of the choices you makewhich don’t change the ending, but simply change how you get there, but the story still remains compelling.

2. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 | The best superhero video games

It was obvious that it was on the list, but it’s not the best overall (maybe you’ve already figured out which one is in first place). But the fact is that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 it is one of the best titles in the catalogue Insomniac Games and one of Sony’s best exclusives. The game is the direct sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man e di Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. We won’t dwell too much on the plot to avoid spoilers, but in summary Peter Parker lives a new life, alone, working as a teacher at the high school where Miles Morales studies while his girlfriend Mary Jane continues to work as a photographer for the Daily Bugle. Meanwhile, a new threat arrives in the city: The requirements the hunter. A mercenary who seeks the perfect prey that can give him a worthy end, and in doing so kills all the opponents that Spider-Man has faced in his career, but the threat is also represented by Venom.

The gameplay is practically the same as the first chapter, but it’s all enhanced: new moves, new gadgets, new stunts. They even added one wingsuit to travel around the map at high speed. Speed so extreme that the PS4 could never handle it, which is why the video game is aPS5 exclusive. There are tons of activities to do, including main missions, side missions, collectibles, challenges, crimes, buildings to photograph and many other activities. Side missions are too very deeplike that a Central Park with a sweet old man, or even that of Howard. In simple terms, get your handkerchiefs ready.

1. Batman Arkham | The best superhero video games

There’s no reason to even explain why, The Batman Arkham trilogy is the best in the history of superhero video games. The Arkham saga created a new combat system, set a precedent and many titles from other video game production companies took inspiration from Batman. The entire story of the Arkham saga has a spectacular beginning and an end worthy of the character of Batman. In addition to the battles the Dark Knight faces every night with supervillains like The Penguin, Two-Face, Bane, Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke and many others, in the end the real protagonist of the story is the dualism between Batman and Joker. The story revolves around them, their eternal war, which continues even after the death of his rival. Arkham is one of the best stories in the world of video games.

Returning to the gameplay, this is renewed with the course of the chapters, starting from Batman Arkham Asylum, which already made history with the new fighting style, characters and setting of Arkham Asylum. Then continue with Batman Arkham Citywhere new moves and new gadgets are added, but this time in one open map, a very large map where you can visit the city of Arkham. We then finish with Batman Arkham Knightwhich takes us right to Gothamthus becoming a game open world in which you can move at high speed with the use of the grappling hook and the cape, but also with the Batmobile. It evolves a lot too stealth, which in turn taught many developers a lot. In fact, in the stealth phases you have to study the environment, pay attention to where the enemies are and use various gadgets or what you find around you to help you eliminate them one by one. What makes stealth fun is the ability to frighten enemies. There’s little to say, Batman Arkham made history.
