2022 hasn’t been the most prolific year in terms of the number of great video games released but it has certainly witnessed the arrival of new and old IPs that have had and will have a great impact on the market. That’s why we also decided to do one videogame excursus of this year drawing up the ranking of best video games released in 2022.
Putting such a list on paper is certainly not a simple thing. Many good games will be left out and the tastes of every gamer and sacrosanct and respectable, but we still tried to summarize in one place what, in our opinion, have been the most impactful games. And who knows, maybe we’ll be able to discover some hidden gems to be recovered for the Christmas holidays!
The Best Video Games of 2022:
Elder Ring
Our list of the best games of 2022 opens (remember, “list” and not “ranking”) this year’s Game of The Year, Elder Ring. It’s not hard to see why Elden Ring won the renowned award of the year. A long-awaited game that has been able to fully meet the expectations of the players, going even further, offering a living world, an excellent challenge and a fantasy setting worthy of the best representatives of the genre.

God of War Ragnarok
The second chapter of the renewed saga of God of War brings back to PlayStation that plot, settings and characters that we loved in 2018. It does so with a gameplay filed from every flaw, an even more intriguing story and all the charm of Norse mythology. Kratos e Atreus they are now more mature and their intricate relationship will become even more complicated with the arrival on the scene of Thor and the other Nordic deities.
God of War Ragnarok is the sequel we’ve been waiting for and once again, Santa Monica Studio managed to outdo itself with a concluding chapter (?) worthy of note. All the news (without plot spoilers) in our review.

Horizon Forbidden West
Speaking of sequels, this year we got to find out even more about Aloy it’s the amazing world of Horizon con Forbidden West. Aloy is back and fitter than ever and her adventure has taken her to the lands of the West where new opportunities and threats inhabit. The story of the world of Horizon and the origins of Aloy find important new developments as our heroine discovers new abilities, aquatic gadgets and machines to defeat.

Stray
The most talked about cat of the whole year, the one brought to PC and console by Annapurna Interactive. Stray was released this year with great attention from the press and gamers. Creating a game by dressing a cat’s hair is not easy but the software house has managed not only to give us an adorable cat but an incredible world in which to move and purr. Stray was awarded Best Indie Game of the Year for its creativity and innovation in terms of storyline and gameplay.
Stray is available on PC and PlayStation.
Tunic
Speaking of Indie, another major player has been Tunic. The adorable Pomeranian immersed in a colorful world has managed to penetrate the hearts of fans and bring light to independent video games, often too far from the spotlight.
Tunic is a action-adventure isometrico centered on the story of a little fox who leaves for the wild nature, where enemies of different sizes are fought and each with its own attack characteristics. It is a world full of mystery, where many details remain quite obscure and whose meaning is not very clear to us.

A Plague Tale: Requiem
A Plague Tale Requiem it certainly deserves a place in this one list of the best video games of 2022. The direct sequel to A Plague Tale takes us back to a medieval France once again struck by a disturbing invasion of rats. friendship e Hugo they come face to face with this menace again but the mystery of the nature of the rats and of Hugo’s powers deepens. All the elements that made us love the first chapter return between an intricate and well-developed storyline, a setting between the disturbing and the fascinating and a sensational soundtrack.
A Plague Tale Requiem is available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch (via the cloud).
Final Fantasy XIV
Final Fantasy XIV is certainly not new this year but the MMORPG of Square Enix released way back in 2010 this year managed to outdo itself with the expansion Endwalker. The new content brings a glorious conclusion to the incredible adventure that Final Fantasy XIV offers. Between new classes, settings and character and gameplay optimizations, this expansion has been able to rekindle the flame of passion for this title, even managing to crash the servers by number of active players during launch. The Elder Scrolls Online
On the same wavelength (it needs to be said), it ranks among the best video games of 2022 The Elder Scrolls Online. The MMORPG of Bethesda Softworks e Zenimax Online has reached its ninth year of life but shows no sign of stopping the quantity and quality of new content. This year it was the turn of the cycle Legacy of the Bretons which, as per tradition, has introduced three new DLCs and a major expansion. The new content takes us to High Isle and the home of the Breton race of Tamriel where new threats and treasures await us.
The Elder Scrolls Online is available for free on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
Moss Book II among the best games of 2022
Moss Book II was definitely the headline in Virtual reality most impactful this year. The adorable little mouse Quill, already the protagonist of the first chapter, is back in a new adventure in his magical fantasy world in which we will have to help him with the powers of VR. Moss Book II, exactly like the first moss, is a third-person platformer with combat and puzzle elements. Our task is to go through five levels alternating between hack’n’slash-style fights and puzzles to solve. The game is aesthetically fascinating and both in terms of level design and as mechanics represents step forward compared to the first Moss. All the details about Moss Book II in our review.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
Mario + Rabbids it’s a combination that we know very well by now and this year it has once again managed to work its magic. Con Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope we have reached a new level of fun and fresh and fun gameplay that has kept us entertained for hours for one of the most successful franchises of recent years. In this new chapter players will have to face a new and terrible threat: we are talking about the mysterious entity called Cursa and to do it the characters of Super Mario and hilarious Rabbids they will have to join forces. Total War Warhammer III
Among the strategic released this year Total War Warhammer III he is definitely on the podium. The incredible mix of gameplay of the Total War joined the fascinating world of Warhammer has produced a sensational third chapter where every game is a new adventure. This third chapter builds on the two previous experiences, giving us perhaps the best title in the Warhammer saga that will keep you glued to the screen for hours in search of the perfect challenge. Different levels of difficulty, pre-set battles and all the potential of online games will represent for us lovers of strategy.
