Oscar Wilde’s famous Canterville Ghost now becomes an animated film, in cinemas from January 18th
The Canterville Ghost is an animated film distributed by Adler Entertainment and directed by Kim Burdon and Robert Chandler, will arrive in Italian cinemas starting from 18 January 2024. The Canterville Ghost is a story written by Oscar Wilde and published by the author way back in 1887. Since the world of cinema and television came into being, Wilde’s story has had various representations in the audiovisual world. This new animated version features the same premise, albeit it is the first time that the work has been transposed into an animated feature film.

The story is set in a English mansion haunted by the specter of Sir Simon Canterville. A centuries-old curse has been placed on the latter, in fact he can only be freed by one of his descendants, but until then he will have to terrorize and drive away all those who attempt to be living tenants of the house. However, for the first time things are about to change: the American Otis family moves to the estate. This family consists of father, wife, eldest son Washington, two pestilential twins and little Victoria. But the new owners aren’t afraid of him at all. On the contrary. Even the couple’s young daughter, Victoria, decides to ally with him because she turns out to be the only one who could help him. Indeed the girl’s parents consider the ghost’s presence a nuisance to be rid ofand that’s why they will try to hire a series of people specialized in driving away spirits and practicing exorcisms… In the original the voice cast of the film includes Stephen Fry who will be the voice of the ghost, he will be joined by Hugh Laurie who will play the head of the family Hiram Otis, alongside them will be Imelda Staunton, Freddie Highmore, Toby Jones and Miranda Hart.
