The chip crisis, for a couple of years, the production of various hi-tech sectors such as the automotive world (increasingly technological) or consumer electronics has been slowing down. Producers are unable, in fact, to keep up with orders and delivery times are getting longer and longer. With the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for about a month and a half, the situation gets worse. At the root of the problem is the neona gas that is an important raw material in the chip production cycle.
Chip crisis worsens due to war in Ukraine: problems with neon supplies
Neon is a central component of semiconductor manufacturing. 70% of the neon is produced in Ukraine. Due to the war, neon supplies are at an all-time low and, as a result, prices rise and production slows down. The chip crisis, therefore, is likely to suffer a marked worsening. The main producers of neon are Ingas e Cryon. The two companies have factories in Mariupol e Odessatwo cities at the center of the conflict.
There are also problems with Russian commodities
It is not only Ukraine that is indirectly causing the chip crisis to worsen. In addition to neon, in fact, also the palladio represents a key element of semiconductors. 70% of palladium production is linked to Russia. The sanctions applied to the Russian economy, therefore, risk causing a collapse in the world supply of palladium. Again, the consequences on semiconductor production are evident.
