The Document Foundation (TDF) announces the release of LibreOffice are Apple’s Mac App Store, in order to support those who want to exploit the Apple software market. So far, the version of the suite was released on the store by Collaborate.

TDF communicates that on the Apple store, the app will arrive with a cost of 8.99 euroswhich will be fully invested to support it development of the LibreOffice project. This choice is part of a precise marketing strategy by TDF.
In fact, the developers remain focused on the release of the Community version, while ecosystem companies are focused on added value and long-term support for enterprises. This distinction aims to educate organizations to support i progetti FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) choosing the version for professional services. Not the Community version, supported by volunteers and therefore free.
Italo Vignoli, of LibreOffice marketing, explains: “We are grateful to Collabora for supporting LibreOffice on Apple’s Mac App Store for a long time. The goal is to meet the needs of individuals and businesses in the best way, even if we know that the positive effects of this change will not be seen for some time. Educating businesses about FOSS is not easy and we have just begun our journey in this direction ”.
The Document Foundation will therefore continue to provide the macOS version of LibreOffice from the official site, which is the recommended source for all users. The version on the Mac App Store uses the same source code but does not use Javabecause external dependencies are not supported by the store.
