Design

Before venturing into our test, it is necessary to talk about the design of this smartphone. For this review we received a Motorola Edge 40 Pro in the Interstellar Black color (the Lunar Blue version also exists). We are facing a smartphone with great style, elegant and modern. The back of the smartphone features a satin glass material, particularly resistant and that does not leave the slightest shadow of fingerprints. The returned feel is particularly pleasantee it seemed almost a shame to take advantage of the transparent cover that is inside the package. In the rear heads the camera dial (which we will discuss in detail later) square but with soft curves like the rest of the smartphone.

Il 6.7″ inch display, in fact, it is of type endless edge. This translates into a curvature on the sides that completely eliminates the annoying black edges and gives it a soft design that guarantees an excellent hand grip. In the display, top in the center we also find the camera notch for selfies.

The power and audio management buttons are located on the left side of the smartphone. At the bottom we find the entrance for the Type-C recharge and the drawer for the nano SIM (to which an eSIM can be coupled). Here we also find one of the two audio outputs, the second one is located on the upper side.

Oltre al Motorola Edge 40 Pro, inside the package we also find the aforementioned transparent cover, an instruction manual, a Type-C cable and the 125W charging socket.

Technology

Motorola Edge 40 Pro review 1 1

Under the elegant shell of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro we find a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, literally the non plus ultra of the processors currently available on the market. This processor is capable of deliver high performance and smooth browsing while optimizing battery consumption. All of this is supported by a RAM da 12GB e a 256GB non-expandable internal memory.

Il FHD+ display with 2400 x 1080 resolution ensures a sharp image with vibrant colors and a 165Hz refresh rate. This offers a rendering of bright colors and more intense blacks to fully enjoy video games, videos and TV series even on a smartphone. In this regard, the Dolby Atmos on the two aforementioned audio outputs that offer a clean and deep sound.

A wide 4600mAh battery it will allow you to use your smartphone for a long time arriving comfortably at the end of the day (with average use). If that weren’t enough, the smartphone supports 125W TurboPower fast charging as well as 15W wireless charging.

Camera

Camera side, we find one triple rear camera with a 50MP main lens, an ultra-wide angle lens and a Macro Vision lens. In the optical group we also find an advanced depth sensor and the inevitable flash. There front camera is instead of 60MP, one of the most advanced on the market. On the video side we find instead an appreciable support for 8K quality with 30 FPS or go up to 60 FPS with 4K.

In support of the cameras we find Motorola’s software and AI aimed at improving the performance of photos and videos. Among these there is the optical image stabilization able to avoid annoying blurring from photos for always sharp results. Also noteworthy is the remarkable sensitivity in low light conditions to ensure excellent shots in any light condition. We also find the instant all-pixel focus which uses a greater number of pixels to offer scenes and shots that are always accurate.

Our review of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro

We had the new Motorola Edge 40 Pro on trial for about 3 weeks during which it became our second smartphone for daily use.

Let’s start right away by saying that it is one of the most pleasant smartphones to hold in hand that we have ever tried. Between the endless edge design and the satin back, the feel it gives is really pleasant, as well as guaranteeing an excellent grip. To this is added theexcellent performance of the touchscreen of the display. This is also extremely pleasing to the eye thanks to the HDR10+ quality and the absence of borders and we played and watched TV series for a long time (for work eh!) without ever getting tired. Image quality is excellent, with vivid colors and nothing short of perfect sharpness.

The performance of the powerful second generation Snapdragon 8 processor is also perfect, which allows a smooth transition between one app and another, even among the heaviest ones. Among these, video games, which are usually the most resource intensive, perform very well. From Genshin Impact to Wild Rift, every title has moved perfectly and in general, we have never had a moment of slowness in daily use. About that, we also point out an excellent battery performance. Although the 4,600 mAh is surpassed by some other models, the battery optimization is really good and never let us down during the day allowing us to go beyond 24 hours of moderate use.

As for the camera, left us particularly satisfied but without overdoing it. The rendering of photos and videos is excellent and the software used comes to the rescue where it is most needed. With optimal light conditions, the shots show excellent color fidelity, neither too bright nor with too high contrasts, faithful to what our eyes see. The video performance is also good between 8K quality at 30fps and 4K at 60fps.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro review in a nutshell

Going back to the €900 mentioned at the beginning of this review of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, it doesn’t seem that much after what we’ve seen. We are facing an excellent smartphone equipped with cutting-edge technology, a quality camera and a truly Pro design.

If you are looking for a premium smartphone in line with market standards but superior in terms of style and value for money, this is the one for you.
