Nobody expected this, but apparently it really happened, after Netflix’s live action adaptation, the One Piece anime will have a remake. This was announced at the One Piece panel at the event Jump Festa 2024where the animators of Wit Studio spoke with enthusiasm about the new work they are working on, revealing that they start again directly from the beginning, when Monkey D. Luffy meet the gentleman pirate Shanks, the one who inspired the young man to become a pirate. For the occasion, they have already presented a teaser del remake.

The president of Wit Studios George Wada wrote a message regarding the release of the teaser trailer for the One Piece anime remake. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project and invites all fellow animators from around the world to join the staff in contributing to the creation of the remake. The announcement also specified that the remake will be distributed by Netflix and the remake will have the title of The One Piece, thus creating a contrast with the original work. Unfortunately, however, we still don’t know anything about dates, cast and other animators who will participate in the project. The original version of the East Blue story arc is already available on Chruncyrollthe platform invites us to watch that while we wait to see it again in remake format.
Was there a need for a remake, considering that the original work is still going forward? Probably not, but the curiosity is there. The first episodes of the anime are very old and the years are noticeable, so a remake of the first sagas at least could be very interesting to see.
