If once the idea of having a home projector seemed limited to very few, today it is much more common. More and more people choose this solution to enjoy content, rather than a traditional TV. If you who are reading are also considering this option, know that theHorizon Ultra by XGIMI it is a decidedly interesting product: let’s see why in our review.
Horizon Ultra review: A projector that is simply beautiful to look at
What is immediately striking about this XGIMI projector is undoubtedly its design. Forget the classic idea of this type of tool: we have before us an object that goes well with any decor, with an appearance similar to that of a vintage speaker. Only turning it on reveals the compartment in which the projection lens is present, making it absolutely discreet and fascinating.
But as important as design may be that’s not what we really care about, naturally. Even in the most functional aspects, however, our review of the Horizon Ultra is decidedly positive. The promise of this product is to deliver an amazing viewing experience and so it is, indeed.
Colors are exceptionally vivid, even without getting into high-quality content terrain. Going then to probe the most sought-after offers of streaming platforms we can go to unlock an even higher level. We have the ability so to reconstruct truly exceptional projectionswhether it’s for an evening with friends or simply a private viewing.
Another key feature of this projector is its extraordinary brightness and we wanted to put it to the test hard. This is also because it has a direct impact on the usability of the tool, avoiding having to create total darkness in the room to be able to use it. And the test definitely passed. While of course perfect darkness is the best condition, we were able to enjoy excellent viewing even in a lighted room. Factor not to be underestimated for those who want to take advantage of the Horizon Ultra for a more flexible context than a real dedicated cinema room.
If the hardware convinces, some doubts remain on the software side
Another absolutely valuable aspect of this projector is the audio compartment. The built-in speakers are definitely powerful and of excellent quality. There is therefore no need to add an external system, unless you want particularly refined audio. Factor that contributes to making the ensemble much more compact, scoring a big plus for projectors over TVs.
Wanting to go find a critique however for this Horizon Ultra, we must admit that we are not particularly satisfied with the more purely software aspect, in its various smart features. Indeed we have available on the Android TV projector, with which we can access most streaming platforms directlywithout going through external devices. And although (as for many other projectors unfortunately) the native Netflix app is not available, there are alternative tools to access the catalog anyway, as explained in the manual.
However, even with the applications present the experience hasn’t always been as smooth as we would have liked. Especially in the early stages of switching on, we have often experienced slowdowns in commands and loading. Nothing that prevented us from enjoying the contents, but more could have been done on the user experience side. It cannot be excluded that with the official release of the product updates may arrive that improve the situation.
Horizon Ultra adjusts automatically
We have always been in the software field particularly positively affected from all the features related to the projection space management. The so-called Intelligent Screen Adaptation or ISA 3.0 is in fact undoubtedly comfortable and functional, in its various applications.
The automatic management of brightness and adaptation to the color of the wall as mentioned before, they enormously expand the possibilities of implementing the projector, reducing the need for truly dedicated spaces. Any uncluttered wall is enough to be able to watch a film in excellent quality, without having to add other tools.
And to make life even more convenient for Horizon Ultra users are the features of automatic image adaptation. The first set-up is extraordinarily quick, with the projector focusing the projection frame and straightening it if necessary (for example if the fixture is not perpendicular to the wall, but angled), then correcting any variations. In short, we no longer have to worry about any micro-movementseven just to clean, which will require you to start over with the setting.
Finally, the presence of a automatic lock in case someone passes in front of the projection, also considering the great luminosity mentioned above. A very useful feature for protect the eyes of children and animalspreventing them from directly observing the light emitted by the projector.
Horizon Ultra, the review: a substantial investment, but one that gives satisfaction
Overall we would say that XGIMI’s Horizon Ultra projector is undoubtedly a solid product. We are not exactly at an entry level from the point of view of the price to the public and this however is absolutely justified with a outstanding image quality. The fact that it also has a particularly sophisticated design confirms this positioning, making it suitable for a specific audience.
If you are looking for a device that does very well even in particularly large projection spaces, this is not only a good choice but is probably even better than most comparable TVs. AND movie nights in your home will never be the same again.
