After months and months of waiting, it’s now official, The Rocketeer reboot finally has a writer. This is Eugene Ashe
After a long wait, Disney has finally revealed the name of the person who will be responsible for bringing The Rocketeer back to the screen. The film will be a reboot of the sci-fi film titled Rocketeer Adventuresfrom 1991, then directed by Joe Johnston, in turn taken from the comic The Rocketeer by Dave Stevens. The new production will have a new screenwriter. It’s about Eugene Ashealready in charge of Homecoming (2012) and Sylvie’s Love (2020), a film that received an Emmy nomination.

The first film followed the events of Cliff Secord (played by Billy Campbell), a young aerobatic pilot who, in 1938, comes across a particular jetpack prototype. By wearing it, Cliff becomes the Rocketeer hero, able to protect his loved ones from harm. The man is not the only one who has set his sights on the device: a group of Nazis also know about the jetpack and will do anything to take it out of Cliff’s hands.
Upon its release the film boasted massive publicity, however this was not enough to allow the film to take off at the box office and become a must known by all. This detail, however, does not seem to have discouraged Disney, convinced of the potential of this story and the possibility of giving new light to this character. An attempt was already made in 2019, when Disney itself presented the animated series The Rocketeer, canceled after just one season.

It would seem that the new production, which has often been associated with the term reboot / sequel, will be set six years after the events of the original film. This time we will follow the young aerobatic pilot Billie Faye Sandswho, after inheriting Cliff Secord’s jetpack, decides to use it to stop a new group of criminals, with the aim of attacking the security of the United States.
But who will be the protagonists of this new version of The Rocketeer? It would seem that the new main character will have the face of David Oyelowo, former producer of the show, alongside his wife Jessica. It now remains to be seen whether, in the hands of Eugene Ashe, this project will be modified in some form. We’ll see what Disney can produce with this new story in its hands.
