The Sims 5 will be free-to-play, the game will be released for free

The reaction of joy is definitely one of those incomprehensible in Simlish, the Sims language. Yes, because today the developer Maxis confirmed that The Sims 5 will be available for free from launch. The move follows the decision last year to make The Sims 4 a free-to-play game, thus paying only for the purchase of bundles and expansion packs.

The Sims 5 will be free for everyone

The decision was announced by Lyndsay Pearson, vice president of creative franchise for The Sims for Maxis Studios (the game’s developer). Pearson broke the news in a video called Behind The Sims stating:

““We want Project Rene to be free to download, and that means that when it’s ready and fully open to our players, you’ll be able to join, play, and explore Project Rene without a subscription, core game purchases, or energy mechanics.”

Project Rene is the working title (provisional code name) of the game, currently in development. Below is the complete Behind The Sims video.

We can therefore deduce that, just like The Sims 4, the new chapter of the world’s most loved life simulator will offer players optional paid packages and content. Not all details regarding the packages have been released yet, but we expect more information to come to light as more information about Project Rene’s development is revealed.

The release date is also unknown. In the meantime, however, there is no longer any need to break the piggy bank. Gobble gobble!
