Hogwarts Legacy presents a transgender character that players can interact with ai Three Broomsticksnamed Sirona Ryan. The creator of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowlinghas attracted considerable controversy for its repeats transphobic statements, regularly disseminated to his millions of Twitter followers. Rowling’s transphobia made many reconsider the Harry Potter franchise as a whole, creating a problem for the video game Hogwarts Legacy.
In the wake of Rowling’s comments, the developers of Hogwarts Legacy they distanced themselves from the author and they clarified that she was not involved in the game’s development. That hasn’t stopped some fans from call for a boycott of the title, arguing that buying the game is equivalent to endorsing Rowling’s transphobic views. The developers, however, continue to work for distance herself from Rowling’s transphobic views. They have indeed added a transgender character to the game.
The transgender character available in Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy allows players to visit Hogsmeade, a small magical village located relatively close to Hogwarts Castle. One of the most popular clubs in Hogsmeade is the Three Broomsticksan inn/pub that Harry Potter and his friends visit on several occasions in the books and films.
If players visit the Three Broomsticks in Hogwarts Legacy, they will have the chance to meet the owner Sirona Ryanthe transgender character we are talking about.

Ryan is involved in a couple of missions dell’Hogwarts Legacy, but has no significant role in the game beyond her position as owner of the Three Broomsticks. By talking to her, players can find out more about his past.
Without spoilers, players have the option to ask Ryan because he trusts another character of the game. Ryan knew him before its transition. They hadn’t seen each other for years, but when they met again, he recognized her instantly.
The decision to include a transgender character in Hogwarts Legacy has stirred mixed reactions. Some have lauded Avalanche for taking this step, considering it a challenge against transphobic views by Rowling. Others accused the studio of bringing in a “front transgender character” to try to take some weight off.
Hogwarts Legacy will debut the February 10th on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X; April 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and July 25 for Nintendo Switch.
