TikTok tests the Stories

The Stories arrive on TikTok. So revealed Matt Navarra on Twitter in a communication confirmed by a spokesperson for the App. The new function, called “TikTok Stories“, It is very similar to that found on other industry platforms such as Instagram or Snapchat. Users will then be able to view stories shared by the accounts they follow in a new scrolling sidebar for 24 hours. And, like what happens elsewhere, they will be able to leave reactions and comments. Finally, just like for Instagram, it will be possible to view a user’s Stories by clicking on their profile picture.

TikTok Stories, the new App feature

TikTok describes Stories as “a new way to interact with fans”. Users will then be able to share stories with their followers by clicking the “Create” button that has been added to the sidebar, including any captions, music and texts. But, unlike what happens on other social platforms, TikTok should only accept videos – which proves to be in line with its philosophy -, and not photographs.

“We are always thinking of new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience. We are currently experimenting with ways to offer creators additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community, ”a spokesperson commented on the new feature being tested on the platform. Despite this, we still don’t know anything definitive about the launch of TikTok Stories, nor about the testing phase. Although many users on Twitter have already stated that they have viewed the new feature.

At this point, the fact that TikTok has also decided to launch its own version of Stories doesn’t surprise us. Especially considering that Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Netflix, YouTube, and even the Xbox App have done this in the past. On the other hand, it is undeniable that it is an optimal tool to increase user interaction with the application, offer a new space for ads and keep the platform’s feedback moving. But they are not always successful. Just think of Twitter, which was forced to shut down its version of the Stories just a while ago. But we are sure that for TikTok it will be something else entirely.
