The verification problems for Elon Musk’s social network continue. This morning Twitter days has awarded a check goldthe one reserved for verified companies, to a fake Disney Junior account.
In fact since this morning, the Twitter account @DisneyJuniorUK shows a shimmering gold check, complete with writing that reads. “This account is verified because it is an official activity on Twitter”.
There is a problem: the profile in question has absolutely nothing to do with Disney. Indeed: it is a parody account that has more than once been accused of posting racial slurs.
Disney Junior UK: first the gold tick on Twitter, now the ban
According to Variety, the account has now been suspended, but the damage is done: Twitter has once again demonstrated its flaws in terms of security and reliability.
Recall that gold verification badges cost $1,000 a month, even if Twitter has decided to give them as a “gift” to the most popular brands. Account owner @DisneyJuniorUK was surprised at the new verified status, as were his 2,628 followers.
In the past, the offending account had spread false information about Disney content. For example, just this morning, he announced that South Park would be coming to Disney Junior, a platform that doesn’t even exist in the UK anymore. In short, a sort of web troll. A web troll who had a shiny gold verification check for a few hours.
