Twitter introduced a virtual button for subtitles in videos on the Android and iOS app. A function that shows i subtitles inserted by creators, instead of the texts written automatically by artificial intelligence, making it easier to use the function. But with some flaws to remedy.
Twitter introduces subtitles in videos
Twitter was once the place for written texts: 140 characters maximum (then get up to 280, and maybe soon even more). But in recent years it has introduced several possibilities, such as voice chats of Spaces. Not to mention that it’s a favorite place to post trailer of video games and films: we in the editorial office use it above all for this.
Until now, however, these features lacked an important accessibility feature: subtitles. Twitter therefore remedied earlier for Spaces and then for videos. But in this second case, the subtitle option only appeared if the video was without audio and disappeared if you put the video in full screen.
I sHowever, automatic octotitles cannot replace those written by creators, especially in languages other than English (because the algorithm is less ‘trained’ in other languages). But now Twitter has press releasesuccessfully passed the tests started to open, arrive i embedded subtitles by the creators.
By clicking the button [CC] you can activate them. But this button will only appear when the creators have included subtitles (so in all likelihood in all of our beloved trailers). But the one for automatic subtitles will no longer appear instead. Something that could generate some confusion for users.
Perhaps soon Twitter will allow you to activate automatic subtitles if there are no creators, as happens on other social and video platforms. We will keep you posted.
