As the gaming industry continues to consolidate, amid acquisition after acquisition and rising games, the CEO of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot said that the software house of Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry will remain independent for the moment, but would still consider the offers of other companies for a possible acquisition. Let’s take a look at what the executive said.
Is Ubisoft open to an acquisition?
The speech of the executive of the French company began by reiterating the importance of bringing Ubisoft titles to all possible platformsan element in apparent contradiction with the concept of acquisition, even if Microsoft has recently shown that these two visions can indeed coexist. Here is an excerpt from her speech at the investor meeting:
“We have always made decisions in the interest of our contacts – our employees, players and investors. Ubisoft can remain independent because we have the talent, financial strength and a large portfolio of original intellectual properties. That said, in the event that an acquisition offer should emerge, the board of directors will examine this offer and will always, and obviously, in the interest of all our contacts and interested parties ”.
Quite unexpectedly the CEO mentioned Nintendo, among the possible buyers of the Ubisoft brand, also in the face of the excellent relations between the software house and the big N:: “If we look at Nintendo… well, we are their main partner and third party publisher. Nintendo is always interested in everything we have done and that we continue to develop for them and also with their brands, so there is no doubt that the collaboration exists and is very fruitful ”.
Just think of projects like Mario + Rabbids, born from an interesting crossover and that have been appreciated both by the public and by the critics.
