UK sales figures: results for video games up to 05/09/21

The (technically) first week of September closes in a “cubic” way: here are the first autumn sales figures for video games

However tangible the signs of the autumn restart are for the world of video games, when to make the news is a possible PEGI 18 for Pokémon i sales data they cannot surprise that much. It should also be said, however, that this week an ideally greedy PlayStation Showcase awaits us; the hype is tangible, in that sense, if we consider how much Sony fans have flocked to the shops in search of appetizers. Yes, because (as we always remember) here we are talking about the physical format, which as always benefits enormously from new hardware stocks. But will Sony really be the podium this time?

“If you want a podium, build it!”

In sales figures, the first video game in terms of copies sold is none other than the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft. Of the three formats, it is always the one for the Big N consoles to excel, and in this second week (not consecutive) of “triumph of parsley” Steve’s raids on the hybrid platform have been awarded a gold medal. Whatever the perseverance of Mojang’s title in the weekly charts, the increase necessary to make the top his own was little. In fact, there is talk of a “simple” 29%, more than enough for an overtaking.

Seconds for the second time – Sales figures for video games

The increase of 16%, therefore, was not enough to win the race of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which will have to settle for silver in video game sales figures for the second week in a row. The third place, on which GamesIndustry.biz (which we thank for having reported the census of the British body GfK) did not release the percentages, instead goes to Grand Theft Auto V. Let’s skip the fourth position for a moment and talk about Animal Crossing: New Horizons, whose sales increased by 15%; This is certainly not a small result, given the context we are going to outline.

Switch to PlayStation – Sales figures for video games

Considering that the entire physical video game market has experienced a decline of 6%, the 5% increase in sales figures for the Nintendo Switch (in toto) is no small feat. GamesIndustry.biz did not address the availability of new hardware for rival next-gen platforms, but that didn’t stop the Insomniac Games exclusives from snagging two of the placings. In fact, in fourth place we have Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which climbed eight places with a 38% increase. We do not have the percentages of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which finds itself in a more than decent seventh place.

Other Motors and Alien Aches – Sales figures for video games

Speaking of superheroes, Marvel’s Avengers ranks sixth among the best-selling video games in these sales figures. A price cut by Electronic Arts threw it into eighth place F1 2021, with a notable increase of 51%. Conversely, however, for Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the former first place holder. A drop of 77% knocked him out of the top ten this week just ended, placing him twelfth. We close the ranking of the top ten with FIFA 21 e Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, respectively in ninth and tenth position. Who stays?

New this week – Sales figures for video games

Little, very little fanfare for upcoming video games, whose sales figures see them both out of the top ten. Technically, the arrival of The Medium on PS5 he makes it a pseudo-novelty, but in this case we are dealing with one of the rear lights of the Top 40. And it is really bad to have to speak in the plural, because this title is unfortunately in company. In fact, as the 40th best-selling game, we have the driving simulator WRC 10. We have already outlined the top ten, for the rest; we just have to take stock of the situation, as usual, with our table.
