In the past few hours, Riot Games announced the postponement of a Valorant tournament, the 2022 EMEA Valorant Champions Tour, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine
The international politics of the past few hours has been holding the world in suspense, for reasons now well known to most. Two (abundant) years of the Coronavirus pandemic were not enough to crush the most fragile slices of the population, now we have also found ourselves facing the outbreak of yet another international conflict. Any industry, including sports and entertainment, is loudly condemning the Russian decision to invade Ukraine and start a real war, and of course gaming is no exception. In the past few hours, in fact, Riot Games has announced the postponement of one of the main events of Valorant, the highly regarded hero shooter.
According to Dot eSports, there are a lot of Russian and Ukrainian players in the ranks of the tournament participants, including Gambit, Natus Vincere, FunPlus Phoenix and Acend. And it is precisely with a post on Twitter, through the official profile of the competition, that the company has voiced the disappointment towards political decisions so infamous as to be able to agree the whole world. And Riot Games was not alone: 11 Bit Studios, GOG and Raw Fury, for example, took to the field (each in their own way) to raise funds for the Ukrainian Red Cross., the main focus of the humanitarian aid needed by the civilian population at the moment. We leave you the tweet, with the related discussion, of Riot Games right below.
After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone VCT EMEA Week 3 games. Our community’s welfare is integral to us and at this time, our number one priority is to support the players, casters, staff and fans affected by the escalating crisis in Ukraine.
