Here’s some news that no one expected: the historic Vanwall brand, after the adventure of the 2023 WEC world championship, has decided to launch a new road car. What features will it have? Let’s find out now!
It is now there for all to see: vintage is a real trend and the revival is the natural response that producers offer to the needs of customers who most appreciate references to the past. We have recently witnessed the return, more or less fortunate, of many disappeared brands such as Borgward, Jensen, Isotta Fraschini and MG. Historic brands that have been relaunched, exploiting the potential of some technological or market nichesand which have never been completely forgotten by the vast international population of motor enthusiasts.
Vanwall continues in the wake of these illustrious “relaunches” bringing back to the fore, after more than half a century, the name of a brand that has been protagonist of the golden age of the sports car. Today, however, things are very different compared to the 1950s: the big one green conscience requires conforming to common sentiment through the production of electric models. This is therefore the basis on which the Vanwall Vandevell S and S Plus were designed.
A hot hatch with a green soul: here is the Vanwall Vandervell S
The years of racing in Formula 1, complete with victory in the 1958 Constructors’ title, are now a memory but Vanwall is still very keen to remind everyone his competitive soul. After participation in the 100th 24 Hours of Le Mans, here is the idea of a car designed to also take to the road the charm of the track: a compact super sports car, full of technology and sophisticated solutions. Called this way to remember Tony Vandervellfounder of the brand in 1951, this very particular sports car can boast a very slender and rational aesthetic.
Almost as if to recall the shapes of the historic Lancia Delta, the flat and muscular sides they end in a truncated and sloping tail, complete with aerodynamic extractor to underline its sportsmanship. The front, always very linear, is characterized by a conspicuous air intake and headlights pleasantly essential design. The look gains further aggressiveness thanks to the 22″ rims and to the employment of a generous man rear spoiler. Various colors available including the inevitable verde racingred, black, blue, dark gray and white, with a glossy or matt finish.
Lots of power under the hood
The Vanwall Vandervell is offered in two different versions: the S and the S Plus. Both are equipped with one 84 kWh battery and all-wheel drive but they clearly differ in terms of power output: the S Plus can boast a power of well 650 HP for 1800 kg of weight, while the S stops at “only” 325 HP. It follows that the first one records a shot 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, the second instead in 4.9. The autonomy, according to what was declared by the company, should be 420 and 450 km respectively: not a record but compatible with the generous performance provided by Vandervell.
Production of the planned 500 examples is already underway: the cars are being built assembly in Germany and will be delivered starting from the beginning of 2024. The price? 128.000 euro, net of taxes and extra-series details. For those who want the best, all that remains is to focus on an S Plus, with bodywork entirely in carbon and dedicated sports seats. Perhaps personalizing it with some details that recall the racing nature of the brand.
