From the Golden Lion to Poor Things by Yorgos Lanthimos, to the best director Matteo Garrone, here are all the winners of the 2023 Venice Film Festival
The eightieth Venice International Film Festival ended a few minutes ago with the awarding of the last prizes of the event. Poor Things won the Golden Lion. The film by the Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimoswith protagonist Emma Stonewas considered the favorite since its presentation in the Competition and in fact took home the most coveted prize.
The award for best director instead went to Matteo Garrone, not at his first award ceremony, for the film Io Capitan. Silver Lion of the Jury for Japanese Film Evil Does Not Exist by Ryūsuke Hamaguchi. Best actors instead have been decreed Peter Sarsgaard for Memory by Michel Franco e Cailee Spaeny for Priscilla by Sofia Coppola, where she plays Priscilla Presley. The Green Border by Agnieszka Holland won the special jury prize while the young actor Seydou Sarr he won the Mastroianni award for best emerging actor once again for Io Capitano by Matteo Garrone, who was moved together with him in the audience. Best screenplay in the Orizonti per section The Paradise by Enrico Maria Artale, who also obtained recognition for best actress.
