Tomorrow the Volkswagen Group will present to the world SaltGigathe first battery cell factory of group a Salzgitter, in Germany. The European Battery Center will be announced with the event Power On Mission SalzGigabroadcast live Thursday 7 July, from 3.15 pm.
Volkswagen announces SalzGiga, for the production of battery cells
The Volkswagen Group focuses on the electric and does it in style. Tomorrow’s streaming appointment allows to consecrate the electric strategy of the German manufacturer. That begins with the creation of the battery factory at the Group’s plant in Salzgitter.
It will not be the only one in Europe. Indeed Volkswagen has announced a similar plant located near the Valencian municipality of Sagunto, in Spain. But the German center will have a streaming announcement that you can follow directly from the link below.
The Salzgitter center in Germany already currently employs over seven thousand workers. And since 2019 it has been part of the division to build the automotive components of the group, called Volkswagen Group Components. A historic center, which has been producing the Group’s engines since 1970. And that will continue to be the ‘heart’ of production even with the transition to electric.
Volkswagen has not currently gone into detail on the plans for SalzGiga: find out the details live tomorrow, July 7th. But in the past he had predicted a possible launch of the site for the end of 2023, with the aim of producing up to 40 GWh per year. We will see tomorrow if these plans are confirmed.
