September is always a special month for technology enthusiasts. But among the many announcements, none arouses as much interest as Apple’s launch event, which will announce the iPhone 15 – and not only. This evening, September 12, 2023, from Cupertino we will discover the latest news on smartphones, smart watches and all other Apple technological gadgets. We’ll be covering the event both from the US and following it online from home, but we want to take stock in this article of what to expect from the iPhone 15 launch event – even if we hope that Apple manages to surprise us.
iPhone 15, what to expect from Apple’s launch event
Tech enthusiasts know: In the first half of September, Apple reserves a Tuesday for its iPhone launch event. The whole tech world won’t talk about anything else: even if you’ve never had an iOS smartphone, staying up to date is important. Here’s how to follow the event and what to expect.
Date and time of the event
The iPhone 15 event will be held today, 12 September 2023, to 10 a.m. in Cupertino – which is 7pm with us in Italy. As always, Apple called the event “Wonderlust” – this seems to underline how Apple wants to bring the new iPhone Pro and Pro Max to a new level (also in price). The venue of the event will be there‘Apple Park in CupertinoCalifornia, where Apple experts will present the latest innovations and products.

Apple has made access to the event extremely easy for viewers around the world, even if you’re not in California. You can follow the presentation in streaming directly from Apple’s official website. What to expect from today’s presentation
Nothing is really certain before an Apple event. In the past, Apple has demonstrated that it knows how to keep secrets safe that no leaker had discovered, just as it removed products that had been leaked for some time from the presentation a few hours before the official event. But there are some things we can expect with some degree of certainty: we will see a new iPhone, with a new version of iOS (which Apple already announced at WWDC 2023 in June). Apple Watch is also almost certain and the arrival of a new pair of AirPods is very likely.
And on some of these products, we already have different information.
iPhone 15
The iPhone 15 will bring several changes to the Apple smartphone family, but the most awaited will be the transition to USB-C. This important change was made necessary by new European Union regulations, which require the adoption of this universal connection. But Apple wanted to announce it a year in advance of the actual obligation, to make it clear that it is adopting this technology (which it already uses on Mac and iPad) on its own initiative.
According to sources, all models in the iPhone 15 range will adopt the USB-C port. However, Apple’s expert analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max they will have higher data transfer speeds, supporting the USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 standard. The basic iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, on the other hand, will support USB 2.0 – decidedly less fast in transferring data. Despite this, all models should benefit from faster charging, with one speed of 35Wthanks to this transition (although other sources think it will only arrive on the Pro models.
Furthermore, it is expected that all iPhone 15 models will be equipped with Dynamic Island, while last year it was only the Pro and Pro Max. This includes a pill-shaped cutout, expected for all models. Furthermore, for all comes the addition of an ultra-wideband chip across the range.
What’s new for the Pro and Pro Max models
The iPhone 15 Pro e Pro Maxhowever, will also bring significant changes in terms of design. It is expected that they will have a titanium framethinner bezels and a more serviceable aluminum chassis than the iPhone 14. Additionally, they could feature a faster A17 chipmade using the process at 3 nm, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus should retain the A16 chip from the iPhone 14 Pro. The new chip should increase both performance and battery life. The Pro models are also expected to have more RAM – although Apple usually doesn’t discuss these details at events.
Another possible novelty is a action button similar to that of the Apple Watch Ultra, which could allow users to assign shortcuts to different apps and features. Additionally, it looks like Apple may keep the volume rockers and power button, despite initial rumors of replacing them with solid-state toggles.
There has also been speculation about the rebranding of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with the “Ultra” name appearing to be a possibility. However, it seems that Apple has decided to keep the Pro Max name. An exclusive for the iPhone 15 Max (or Ultra) could be the periscope lens with up to 6x optical zoom.
These changes could lead to a price increase for the Pro models, according to some analysts.
Infine, i new iPhone 15 could feature new color options, including “titanium grey” e dark blue, as well as black, white, yellow and pink per l’iPhone 15 standard.
Apple Watch
In addition to the next iPhone 15, Apple seems ready to reveal its latest line of smartwatchesh, but it seems there will be no revolutionary changes. With regard to the Apple Watch Ultra, there isn’t much information at the momenti, but it looks like it will keep the dimensions of 49 mm and will feature a new, darker titanium case. However, some rumors suggest that the Watch Series 9 will include a updated S9 processor.
Reportedly, the S9 chip will be based on the A15 processor architecture introduced by Apple with the iPhone 13. This could lead to a improved energy efficiency and battery life compared to its predecessor. Additionally, it appears that Apple is working on a chip ultra wide band for watch range, as well as a number of improvements in sensors and internal components, including a improved optical heart rate sensor.
Also, a new pink color and the possibility of choosing a strap with a magnetic buckle. Furthermore, some rumors suggest that Apple could use 3D printed materials for some parts of upcoming smartwatches. On the contrary, it seems unlikely that we will see a new Watch SE.
AirPods Pro
The iPhone 15 isn’t the only Apple device destined to move to USB-C. According to what Gurman reported, Apple plans to present some AirPods Pro with USB-C connector at today’s event.
At the moment it is not yet clear whether Apple will make substantial changes to the AirPods Pro itself or whether it will limit the upgrade to the charging case. Software innovations are more likely, also available in the near future. These could include improvements inadaptive audioin the mode transparency and better automatic management of switching between devices.

Any other news?
Apple should announce these new features at the event dedicated to the iPhone 15: in addition to smartphones, only Apple Watch and the new AirPods Pro. Usually, the company is holding a separate event in October to introduce the new Macs and iPads.
So we expect, but only in October, the launch of a new one iMacof a 13-inch MacBook Air and a 13-inch MacBook Pro, both powered by the brand new internal chip M3 of Apple. As for the line iPadit could arriveSeventh generation iPad Mini.
