More updates on the WhatsApp privacy policy. In fact, the parent company Meta recently announced that it had implemented all the changes required by the European Guarantor to the platform. For those who do not remember, in fact, last September the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) sanctioned WhatsApp with a colossal fine of 225 million euros. The accusation was that of not having adequately complied with the GDPR legislation in Europe. Reason why the company immediately ran for cover.
WhatsApp: privacy policy revised after the sanctions of the Irish DPC
Meta has updated the WhatsApp privacy policy. A necessary action after the maxi fine imposed on the company by the Irish DPC. The platform, in fact, was sanctioned for failing to comply with the transparency obligations provided for by the privacy regulations. Apparently, the changes involve not only the reorganization of the documentation, but also the addition of a number of details in different areas.
“We are updating the Privacy Policy for our users, under the direction of our leading European data protection regulator, the Irish Data Protection Commission. We know that privacy is a major concern for our users, so we want to be very clear: this update does not change the way we operate our service, including the way we process, use or share your data with anyone, including our parent company Meta “.
From what we know, the information added to the privacy policy includes details on what data is collected and why, how they are stored and used, when they are deleted and what data comes from third parties. Added to these are also more details on the data sharing across borders and information on how the data is protected. In short, a series of important additions, which will be reported to European users via a notification. And although they will be able to continue to use the service immediately, they will still be asked to view a 35-page document. A good compromise, which we hope will also convince the European GDPR.
