Mark Zuckerberg has announced an important novelty: i whatsapp channels, a feature that allows you to receive relevant updates from people and organizations in a simple, secure and privacy-friendly way, within the WhatsApp app.
WhatsApp channels, a new way to receive updates
Zuckerberg announced the news on Facebook and then on the official WhatsApp blog, because channels are really interesting news. Channels aim to become the product of most reliable broadcast messaging on the market, with the same guarantees as privacy protection offered by WhatsApp conversations.
Among the attentions of WhatsApp, there is the freedom and power to decide which Channels to join, without administrators being able to add users without their consent. It will also only keep your Channel history on our servers for a period of 30 days.
The Channels will be seen in a special section “Updates“, distinct from personal chats with family, friends and groups. They therefore represent one one-way broadcast toolwith which administrators can share messages, images, videos, stickers and polls.
To launch the Channels, WhatsApp has announced partnerships with prominent personalities and organizations in Colombia and Singapore, including the Singapore Heart Foundation and the Colombian fact-checker Colombia Check. In fact, these are in fact the first countries where the Channels will be active, to test, refine and perfect the experience. Among the global partners for the launch are also NGOs such as l‘International Rescue Committee (IRC) e l’OMS, as well as famous football clubs such as FC Barcelona e Manchester City.
