After a year, WhatsApp per Mac has finally caught up with its Windows counterpart, officially arriving onApp Store. If previously you could only download this version from the Meta messaging app website, today users on macOS can download the application directly from the Cupertino digital store.
WhatsApp for Mac arrives on the App Store
As SmartWorld points out, WhatsApp has carried out a complete redesign in both its Windows and Mac versions. It now develops both as native applications, taking advantage of the technology Catalyst for the Mac version. This major update allows the application to offer similar functionality to the mobile app. Between these audio and video callsdespite being complementary and requiring an account on the phone to be activated.
The app features notable improvements in terms of performance e energy efficiencycompared to the previous edition. However, the development path of the Mac app is slower than its Windows counterpart. Only in August this year did it reach the stable version ready for the official store, while on theMicrosoft Store it is available from 2022.
Thanks to the recent announcement, WhatsApp is now freely available on the App Store. The only requirement is a Mac with macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later versions. Installation occurs via a device-specific link (iPhone or Mac). To start, you must give consent to open the App Store, follow the link, press “Get” and start the application with the “Start” button.
To link your account, you need to log in to settings from your phone (on iPhone) or tap the three dots at the top right (on Android), select “Connected devices”, choose “Connect a device” and scan the QR code that appears on the computer screen. At this point, it will be possible to start the WhatsApp chats directly from your Mac.
