If you are having trouble sending and receiving messages on WhatsAppdo not worry because you are not alone: the Meta app is down in most of Italy.
The users themselves report the disservice, both on Downdetector (which collects reports directly from the network) and on social platforms. In particular, it is on Twitter that people are trying to figure out if the problem is generalized or not.
WhatsApp down only in big cities: what’s going on?
Unlike what usually happens, the down during these hours does not seem to be generalised. In fact, most users are able to send and receive messages without problems.
According to Downdetector, the outages mainly concern the centers of large cities, while they do not seem to affect the suburbs. The most affected cities appear to be Milan, Turin, Rome, Bologna, Naples and Palermo. However, no reports from other major cities such as Florence. Even in the provinces, as mentioned, everything seems to be proceeding normally.
The peak of reports occurred around 19:25 today (Monday 5 June 2023) and the disruptions are affecting both the mobile app and the WhatsApp web.
At the moment the reasons for the down are not known. We will keep you updated in case of official communications from Meta. In the meantime, below are some user tweets.
