It is a particularly prosperous period for users of WhatsApp , as the messaging application has announced many upcoming features aimed at improving the social experience, from multi-device support to a system of privacy more customizable, but the company seems to be also working on a new “community“.
WhatsApp: A community feature is coming
Identified by the guys from XDA-Developers during an analysis from the APK version of WhatsApp to its beta update 2.21.21.6, the function is described in several strings of code, which suggest a possible new social element within WhatsApp. However, there is no hard evidence of what the function is or how it will work within the application as the aforementioned strings also raise more questions than answers.
A string suggests this function community they will use an invitation linking system that would allow users to join. The latter would also be able to share invitations in the form of a QR code. Another string supports the theory, as it reads something like this: “Anyone with WhatsApp can follow this link to join a community. Share it only with people you trust. ”
Of course, this element suggests that any WhatsApp user with this invitation could become a member of a certain community.
Like groups, communities will also have administrators with several moderation options available to them. According to the strings, they can change the description of a community, or make sure that only the administrators themselves can post messages. There will also be the option to grant these privileges to individual users or the entire community.
At the moment it is not yet clear what this new feature actually is, but it is likely that it is something similar to the equivalent of Telegram, which allows the creation of small dedicated groups.
