I ephemeral messages of WhatsApp they are a kind of double-edged sword. On the one hand, the simple fact that they disappear helps ensure user privacy. On the other hand, the ability to save the multimedia files they contain does nothing but violate it. This is why the platform seems determined to launch an update that aims to improve privacy by preventing automatically saving media destined to disappear.
WhatsApp: ephemeral messages will no longer save multimedia files automatically
According to WABetaInfo there are some updates coming for the WhatsApp App on iOS and Android. The news, apparently, are not few. Until now, users could automatically save multimedia files in the smartphone gallery, but now this option will be limited for ephemeral messages. A novelty that makes chats safer and more private, if we can say so. As you can see in the image below, on Android WhatsApp will automatically deactivate the “Multimedia visibility” option for pop-up chats. On iOS, however, it will be “Save to Camera Roll” option disabled.

These automatic options will be disabled by default. However, it will still be possible to save the multimedia files of WhatsApp ephemeral messages by changing the settings and activating the features, as well as download them manually. According to WABetaInfo, this feature has now been rolled out for beta users and will reach the general public within 24 hours. Just a few days ago the App introduced another security feature that prevents people from forwarding an already forwarded message to more than one group chat at a time, thus preventing the spread of spam on the instant messaging app.
