After the announcement arrived last April, WhatsApp is preparing to introduce the Community function. This feature is now available in the latest beta of the app for Android devices. This is a first test that has been activated only for a limited number of users enrolled in the beta testing program. Soon, however, the Community function of WhatsApp will be extended to a greater number of users in view of a subsequent global release.
WhatsApp begins the beta phase of the Community function
Community is the latest evolution of the WhatsApp app. It is a real aggregator of separate groups that can be combined into a single group, for easier chat management. Users can be invited to participate in a Community through a special invitation link or they can independently request access.
At the moment, each Community can contain up to 10 “sub groups”. Also note that the feature allows users to keep their phone number hidden in order to protect their privacy. The WhatsApp Communities, in fact, are designed to be able to involve a large number of users, like real forums.
Further details on the testing phase of this new feature are expected to emerge soon. Over the next few weeks, the test should be extended to everyone to reach the stable version of the app in the future. We’ll see how long it will take to complete the release of this new feature.
