According to WabetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new security feature called chat lock which will allow users to hide certain conversations behind biometric fingerprint authentication.
WabetaInfo explains that “a chat lock conversation cannot be opened without a fingerprint or unlock code”.
We remind you that currently devices equipped with fingerprint recognition already allow you to set up biometric authentication for certain apps. However, the new WhatsApp feature will allow you to set up verification only to certain chats, and not to the entire application.
How Chat Lock works: WhatsApp conversations with fingerprint
The chat lock function can be activated directly from the individual chat settings menu. This will be available for both single and group chats. Also chat lock conversations can be rendered invisible from the app’s chat list. Thus the relevant conversations will be automatically hidden and can only be seen in a special section that can be unlocked by the user.
WabetaInfo also that photos and videos in blocked chats will not be automatically saved in the smartphone gallery, unlike traditional chats. At the moment, the ‘chat lock’ option is only present on the 2.23.8.2 beta version of WhatsApp for Android, which should arrive worldwide soon.
