Legendary Entertainment is ready to involve Warner Bros, Denis Villeneuve and his cast again for a Dune 3 which the director was already thinking about
With the success that Dune – Part Two is enjoying in theaters all over the world, there are rumors of a possible third chapter which would be titled Dune Messiah. We will of course have to wait a long time for the project Denis Villeneuve has been stroking for some time, even before Part Two was completed. However, considering the success of the latter, the Warner Bros. Discovery should have no hesitation in endorsing its continuation, which is then made easier by the already existing corpus of Frank Herbert’s works. It is therefore not surprising that the CEO of Legendary Entertainment showed herself open to the idea, answering the requests with a classic: why not?
Dune 3: is the sequel already being worked on?
Dune – Part Two, released last week it cost about $190 million and has already collected almost as many around the world. According to a CNBC article, the North American IMAX performance was particularly impressive, covering 23% of the 81,500,000 admissions collected in the USA in the first weekend. Denis Villeneuve’s film was shot with digital cameras in that format, and IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said, “The only reason those numbers aren’t higher is that we ran out of seats.” In recent weeks, the first Dune has also recovered some of the revenue it lost in 2021 due to the pandemic, reaching the total of $433,800,000: these are outcomes that would make the endorsement of a Dune 3 almost automatic, or rather that Dune Messiah with which Denis Villeneuve has always said he wanted to complete his trilogy. The story would give space to the characters of Irulan (Florence Pugh) and Alia Atreides (Anya Taylor-Joy), only briefly introduced in the second chapter. Josh Grode, CEO of Legendary Entertainment, makes no secret that he can convince Warner Bros. to make a new outlay of capital to continue, even if he is cautious in his choice of words.
We have all the “creative shareholders” of the project still aligned, supporting this vision. I think everyone is excited, enjoying the moment, and if Denis gets the script right and feels like he can give us another experience on par with the one we just completed, I don’t see why not.
