Wimbledon 2023the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, is preparing to welcome its fans with new digital features, the result of the collaboration between The All England Lawn Tennis Club e IBM. Innovations, based on artificial intelligence, will be available sull’app Wimbledon and on the wimbledon.com website, and will offer fans a richer and more engaging experience.
IBM’s digital news for Wimbledon 2023
IBM AI Commentary
It stands out among the novelties IBM AI Commentary, a feature that will create a commentary for all match highlights videos. All using IBM watsonx generative AI technology. Spectators will be able to activate or deactivate the narrative voice, which will accompany them in the highlights of the matches with informative comments and textual explanations, using a technical and varied language. The feature was created thanks to the work of experts from IBM iX, experience design partner in IBM Consulting, who trained the artificial intelligence models with watsonx foundation models, IBM’s enterprise data and AI platform.
AI Draw Analysis
Another new feature is IBM AI Draw Analysis, the first statistical calculation applied to tennis that uses AI to establish the probability that each tennis player reaches the final, based on the scoreboard of individual performances. The calculation takes into account various factors, such as the tennis player’s previous matches against potential future opponents and his position in the draw compared to the other contenders. The result is a score on a scale indicating the favorable or unfavorable draw for each tennis player. This new insight will help fans discover anomalies and surprises in the singles draw, stimulating debate and interest in the fan community.
IBM’s other digital tools for Wimbledon 2023
The new features add to the already existing digital tools for fans. Among these we mention IBM Power Index Leaderboard, IBM Match Insights e Personalised Highlights Reels and Recommendations.
These features, based on the analysis of over 100,000 data points for every shot played in the tournament, are designed to make it easier for fans to understand which players to follow, how they stack up against their opponents and who will be the likely winner. Fans will be updated and engaged throughout the tournament with new insights generated based on the players they are following.
