On January 20, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Royal Opera House Muscat, the world premiere of Rigoletto by Franco Zeffirelli will be staged
It will be inaugurated on January 20, 2022 the 10th anniversary season of the Muscat Royal Opera House with the staging of the world premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto by the world-famous director Franco Zeffirelli and the collaboration with Rai Cultura and Raicom.
The production will also air on January 28 on Rai 5 in prime time and will see the subsequent international marketing by Raicom.
The season launch will also include an exciting exhibition on the life and work of the legendary theater director, which will be staged at the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts from 16 January to 20 March 2022. Through artifacts, images and videos mounted specifically for the Royal Opera House Muscat, many of them on display for the first time, the exhibition is an art tour on Zeffirelli’s vision for great work.
Recalling the important role played by Maestro Franco Zeffirelli starting from the beginning of the history of the Royal Opera House Muscat, this new production of Rigoletto represents the result of a thought developed by Maestro Zeffirelli over several years. A project that underwent an interruption and then resumed shortly before his death to reach a definitive fulfillment thanks to the will of the Board of Directors of the Royal Opera House Muscat and its General and Artistic Director Umberto Fanni, who understood the value and today they inherit the final responsibility of the staging.
The cast and production
Given the special occasion, the role of the protagonist Rigoletto will be played by Leo Nucci, while among the other interpreters will figure Dmitry Korchak in the role of Duke of Mantua, the young and talented Giuliana Gianfaldoni in the role of Gilda, Riccardo Zanellato will lend the face for the character of Sparafucile e Yulia Mazurova will interpret Maddalena.
The artistic team chosen by Maestro Zeffirelli is made up of: Stefano Trespidi, collaborating director, Carlo Centolavigna, collaborating set designer, and the award-winning costume designer Maurizio Millenotti.
The costumes are made at the Sartoria Farani in Rome and represent one of the highest moments of Italian craftsmanship, of the unmistakable Made in Italy that always enhances the details, with great care and consistency in the colors in respect of the historical reconstruction.
A note of pride for the Royal Opera House Muscat is represented by the participation of a group of choristers from the Royal Guard of Muscat, who will enrich the staff of the artists of the Choir of the Arena di Verona Foundation which will be selected for the occasion by Vito Lombardi to better prepare them for the vocality of Italian melodrama.
Jan Latham-Koenig he will be in charge of directing the Orchestra and Chorus of the Arena di Verona Foundation.
The musical performance will also be enhanced by the presence of the String Ensemble of the famous I Solisti Veneti ensemble, who will perform the Perigordino dances, entrusted to the company Il Leoncello – School and Group of Historical Dance directed by Alessandro Pontremoli.
